Birthdays sure are a special day - if not for self then definetly for people around who adore, love you for being a part of their life.
Our birthdays (mine and husband's) are in the months of May and June. Summer Vacation time! We never ever got to celebrate our birthdays with friends in School or College. Both being the extreme shy types - distributing chocolates in school, standing in front of the whole class while your friends and class teacher sing the birthday song for you, going to each and every class with a close pal and giving chocolates to the teachers - a big NO NO!!
To sum it up - we both dont like celebrating birthday outside family, not that we hate it but just that we are not comfortable.

Now this is what happened at work today.
My SIL surprised me with a cake and bunch of goodies - not at home but at work. We are a small work force of around 70-80. And it was quite a thing to get wished by almost everyone in the company!
The Master Plan
--------------------
SIL takes the number of our HR Manager (a very good friend of mine) on the pretext that she needs some contact info of my office.
She talks to HR and sets up a time to meet her.
Buys a lovely black forest cake, chocolates, candles and drops it over at HR's place.
HR gets the cake and all the goodies.
HR calls the entire girl gang of our company on the pretext of some meeting.
Everyone starts wishing me (people whom I dont generally speak to)!!
I am shocked/surprised and quite embarrassed! (I am generally used to getting wishes by Family and close friends - not every Tom Dick and Harry).
They call me in a conf room.
I see a cake with magic candles. They start singing the birthday song!
All girls go for a second/third serving - Loved the cake!
I was in such a state of shock that I had no words - not even the usual "Thank You" for the wishes!
Well this birthday was the one that I am not going to forget - be it for the shock or for the surprise!
